Chapter 9

Milly

The sound of my alarm clock awakens me. Rolling over, I hit the button to turn off the annoying sound. It’s Monday morning and the start of a new week. After this past weekend, I’m ready for it.

Turning over onto my back, I replay the events from the weekend in my mind. Purposely losing the race to braid Baron’s hair, which I’m happy he liked in the end. Grace announcing, she was filing for a divorce from Bryce was truly a shocker. Deep down, I always thought she would eventually let him back in the house. Having him stay in their guest house was her way of punishing him for what he did, but like Uncle Jasper used to tell us, you never know what folks are going through behind closed doors. Apparently, there are some things Grace wasn’t ready to let Baron and Stanton know about. Whatever they are, I just hope she will be able to move on from it and Bryce.

Uncle Jasper and Ms. Wanda happily offered to take Grace home after the barbeque, but Stanton convinced her to stay there for the night. Travis and Joy went to his sleeping quarters in the barn, while Baron and I stayed in the other guest room. After learning about Grace’s decision, Baron pulled Stanton to the side and had some hushed words with him.

That night, it seemed as if Baron was imprinting his DNA in my lady parts. Not that I’m complaining, because I loved every second, minute, and hour of it. When Baron and I had sex for the first time, I wasn’t a virgin and I would often compare him to the few men I had been with in the past. Let me tell you, those other guys were like pubescent boys who didn’t how to please a woman. Baron knew exactly what to do to raise my temperature and bring my body to heights I never knew existed.

The next morning, after getting into the shower to clean up, which turned into a morning delight with Baron having me pinned against the wall of the shower as he gave me his style of a wakeup call, Baron and I got dressed, then joined Gabby, Stanton, Grace, and Ty in the kitchen for breakfast.

As Gabby and Grace finished cooking, I set the table while Baron and Stanton talked about their mother’s declaration. I knew they were probably still reeling over their mother’s announcement; I’m sure it was still heavy on their minds. I didn’t know how to address the situation with Baron. Like how could I say, It will be all right, I understand, when my parents were happily married up until the day they were taken from Gabby and me. Who’s to say my parents were as happy as I remembered in my adolescent eyes. They might’ve had shit going on Gabby and I never knew about, but if they did, I’m glad we never witnessed it or knew about it. Uncle Jasper always told us our parents loved each other and made sure us girls were shown nothing but love and attention.
